PRONOUNS : What is a Pronoun? : Personal Pronouns : Interrogative Pronouns : Indefinite Pronouns : Demonstrative Pronouns : Relative Pronouns : Compound Pronouns : Gender Forms of Pronouns : Troublesome Pronouns

What are Demonstrative Pronouns?

EX.— This is my house, and that is my car.
EX.— These are my bills and those are my checks.

In this sentence, we use the words, this, that, these, and those as pronouns and also to point out or demonstrate the nouns to which they refer.

When we use this and that in the singular and these and those in the plural as pronouns, and point out the nouns to which they refer, we call them demonstrative pronouns.

NOTE— Notice that this in the singular and those in the plural refer to things close by, while that in the singular and those in the plural point out things at greater distance.
