NEAR, NEARLY

Near is an adjective; the corresponding adverb is nearly.

SECOND EXAMPLE:

Nearby is colloquial for near at hand, close at hand, neighboring. It is particularly objectionable when used as an adjective directly modifying a noun.

Wrong: "The injured man was carried into a nearby drug store."

Corrected: "The injured man was carried into a neighboring drug store (or, into a drug store near at hand)."
