AGGRAVATING, IRRITATING

In good use aggravating means "making heavier, more grave, worse in some way." It is often misused for irritating, exasperating, or provoking.

SECOND EXAMPLE

Aggravating is sometimes used in the sense of irritating, its proper meaning is making heavier, or worse in some way. We may speak of "aggravating circumstances" and of " irritating remarks."
